Solomon & Sons Relocation Services is a licensed and insured moving broker and carrier that offers interstate moves in 45 states across the U.S. And if English isn't your first language, that's no problem. About Solomon & Sons Relocation Services

Established in 1996, Solomon & Sons Relocation Services has a small fleet of trucks based in Dania Beach, Florida. Solomon & Sons themselves carry out all east coast moves, while moves originating on the west coast are picked up by one of four moving companies Solomon & Sons subcontracts work out to on a regular basis.

If you live in South Florida, a company representative will insist on scheduling a free, in-person home inventory, which is the best way to get an accurate estimate that doesn’t change at pickup. Anyone outside of South Florida will have to do a FaceTime inventory instead, which can lead to a less accurate, underestimated quote for one reason or another.

Another con for those residing outside the Sunshine State is the deposit requirement. If your pickup location is outside of Florida, you must pay 35 percent of the total estimate upon booking, whereas Floridians only have to pay 20 percent.

Solomon & Sons Relocation Services pricing

Unlike most reputable, interstate moving companies, Solomon & Sons charges by cubic foot, or rather space on the truck, as opposed to by total weight of your home inventory. Of course, distance (mileage) affects the cost as well.

Recently, we asked the company for some quotes. Here's what they gave us, depending of the different types of moves we asked about:

Move type
Quote
Long-distance: 3-bedroom across country$4,000-$9,000
3-bedroom in state $2,000-$5,000
3-bedroom in regional$3,000-$6,000
Local 1-bedroom$500-$1,500
Local 2-bedroom$800-$2,500
Local 3-bedroom$1,200-$3,500

Moving costs vary based on distance and home size. Long-distance moves for a three-bedroom home range from $4,000 to $9,000, while in-state moves for the same size cost $2,000 to $5,000. Regional three-bedroom moves are priced between $3,000 and $6,000. Local moves are more affordable, with costs ranging from $500 to $1,500 for a one-bedroom, $800 to $2,500 for a two-bedroom, and $1,200 to $3,500 for a three-bedroom home.

Price match guarantee

Solomon & Sons Relocation Services will match competitors' prices, but only under certain conditions. The competitor must provide a binding estimate, meaning a guaranteed, fixed price based on the agreed-upon services—just like Solomon & Sons does. Additionally, the competing company must have an A+ rating (like from the Better Business Bureau). The company says this is to ensure the other company upholds the same high standards for quality and customer satisfaction.

We gave Solomon & Sons Relocation Services a try

In order to get an idea for their pricing, back in 2023, we did some secret shopper work and pretended we were moving a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house from Deerfield Beach, FL, to Cambridge, MA—a total of 1,464 milesand requested an initial quote without doing a home inventory first.

We had already received an estimate from another moving company we had done a home inventory with, so we just gave the Solomon & Sons’ sales rep the total weight of our inventory from that quote, and he translated the weight into cubic feet, which came out to 1,172 cf.

From there, he was able to give me an estimate of $7,911.90 (see screenshots below).

Image: Move.org

The basic cost of service included:

  • Disassembling and assembling of basic furniture
  • Wrapping & Protection of all furniture items with moving pads
  • Detailed, itemized inventory list
  • All transportation costs, including taxes, tolls, mileage & fuel surcharges
  • Customer support throughout the course of your move
  • Loading & unloading of all items
  • Standard valuation protection at the rate of $0.60 per pound per article

Add-on services and additional fees (if applicable):

  • Long carry: First 75 feet are included. Each additional 75 ft. is $75.
  • Stairs: 14 steps are included in the basic estimate. Each additional flight (7 steps) is an additional $75 per flight.
  • Packing and unpacking: Packing supplies and crate services, if not already listed within the proposal, are not included. These services are not included with a basic estimate either.
  • Bulky items/special handling: There’s an additional charge for special handling of items like motorcycles, pianos, gun safes, Pelotons and similar speciality items.
  • Storage: Storage costs are $40.00 per 100 cu.ft. per month + $39 monthly administrative fee, non-prorated ($189 minimum).
  • Shuttle service: If a semi-trailer cannot get reasonably close to your residence for loading/unloading, a shuttle truck may be required to complete the relocation at a minimum charge of $300. The actual charge is subject to shipment size ($0.75 per cubic foot after 300 cu ft). **This one really seems to be an issue when reading reviews on Solomon & Sons. Many reviewers felt surprised by this charge, like it was sprung on them in the end.**

Here was our packing material list:

This was our quote for premium coverage (like insurance) pricing:

Image: Move.org

If we wanted to add full value protection for my items, it would cost an additional $1,300 to $1,500 more, but check out those high deductible levels in the screenshot of the estimate above. While the deductibles feel pretty steep, they are in-line with competitors, as they all seem to work with the same third-party insurance provider(s).

Tips for moving with Solomon & Sons Relocation Services
  • In order to make sure your belongings don’t arrive damaged or that you're at least compensated for them if they do, purchase premium insurance (full value protection) and do a detailed home inventory, taking pictures of all of your high-ticket items and most valuable family heirlooms—before and after packing.
  • Watch out for additional costs in the form of accessorial, or add-on, charges. A few reviewers mentioned their original quotes went over by a couple thousand dollars after realizing they needed a shuttle service due to road constraints. Make sure to give both residences’ full address, and explicitly ask a representative to make sure they quote for any additional shuttle service that may be required.

Solomon & Sons features and services

Solomon & Sons handles most of the moving features and services that we've come to expect from a long-distance mover, including:

  • Storage
  • Packing/unpacking
  • Full-coverage protection
  • Auto shipping
  • Motorcycle shipping
  • Shipment tracking
  • Trash and debris removal
  • Specialty item moving/packing
  • Crating
  • Guaranteed delivery window

Needing storage during a move is pretty common. Sometimes your new place isn't ready to move into right away. Solomon & Sons offers long-term and short-term storage options—but one big, important detail is that storage is only available to Florida customers.

Customer service

Images: Solomon & Sons Relocation Services

Solomon & Sons Relocation Services has one of the best websites out of the top long-distance movers we've researched. The site is easy to navigate, and the information you need is easy to find.

We didn't like that the company's instant quote wasn't truly an instant quote. I filled out the form and then got a text message stating that I would get my quote from a phone call. That's pretty much what happens with every other long-distance moving company (except Colonial Van Lines). Then, I got another text from a representative asking me to call them. Ugg. Then, seconds later, I got a call from them. Very confusing. The company also sent me these photos via text message. Not sure why.

Cancellation

Solomon & Sons's cancelation policy is pretty simple. If you need to cancel your move, deposits are fully refundable as long as you cancel at least three business days before your originally scheduled or rescheduled move date. However, once your moving services have started or if you cancel within three business days of your move date, the deposit becomes non-refundable.

Real customer experience

We read hundreds of reviews on Solomon & Sons Relocation Services on Google My Business, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) site. Here’s what we learned:

  • Many negative reviews focused on broken items, being billed more than was quoted, and poor customer service (mostly lack of communication).
  • Solomon & Sons Relocation Services typically replied more to positive reviews than negative.
  • Positive reviews focused on professionalism, timely deliveries, and kind movers.

We suspect that many of the poor reviews about breaking items and poor shipping practices refer to third-party companies that Solomon & Sons Relocation Services uses to do moves in areas where it doesn't have trucks and movers available. In fact, quite a few customer reviews mention that the company that did their move wasn't branded as Solomon & Sons Relocation Services.

It's important to remember, though, that poor communication and surprise extra fees are on the Solomon & Sons Relocation Services customer service department, not with the third-party movers. The company should better prepare customers for what to expect if their move needs a third-party mover.

Overall, though, there were many more good reviews than bad. As with every mover we've researched, the bad experiences are just a small portion of the company's moves.

We also took a look at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration report for the company. Solomon & Sons Relocation Services has received only four complaints in 2024 and only seven in 2023. That's substantially lower than most other long-distance movers we have researched—and the lowest overall. The only other company that came close was Mayflower, with five complaints as of November 2024,

"Had an overall great experience using Solomon and Sons. Movers called before arriving to the pickup. They did an amazing job and were very kind and professional. Nothing was damaged during transportation. When we arrived at the drop off they organized all the boxes and set up our bedroom set. We enjoyed the experience and would recommend more people to use Solomon and Sons."

Why we recommend Solomon & Sons Relocation Services

Out of the 30 moving companies we’ve researched on Move.org, Solomon & Sons Relocation Services seems to be a fantastic option for all long-distance moves originating on the east coast. While Solomon & Sons doesn’t match the coverage of some providers or offer a ton of discounts, its affordability and mid-range deposit make it a strong contender for those moving within its service area. We also like that they serve customers that speak a variety of languages.

How we reviewed Solomon & Sons

For our Solomon & Sons review we reached out to the company for information about its services, practices, and customer policies, researched and validated industry authorization and regulatory compliance, and scoured customer reviews and complaints from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, and forums like Reddit. In 2025, we plan to conduct mystery shopping and hope to follow a real-life mover through the entire process—from getting a quote to delivering the final box.
