Is Mayzlin a broker or carrier?

Mayzlin Relocation LLC isn’t a broker. They are a registered carrier with the U.S. Department of Transportation and are expert long- distance and out-of-state movers. They don’t broker moving jobs to other companies.

How much does Mayzlin Relocation cost?

With most moving companies, you have to get a quote to know how much you'll likely pay. Mayzlin is the same. We got some quotes from the company to give you a ballpark idea of Mayzlin moving costs.

Move type
Quote
Long-distance: 3-bedroom across countryWith standard packing (customer does all boxes) fragile and delicate items) $7500-$9,000. Full pack (company supplies all boxes and does everything for customer) $9,000-$11,000.
3-bedroom in state $3000-$5000
3-bedroom in regional With standard packing (customer does all boxes fragile and delicate items) $7500-$9,000. Full pack (company supplies all boxes and does everything for customer) $9,000-$11,000.
1-bedroom$2,000-$2,500
2-bedroom$2,500-$3,000
3-bedroom$3,000-$4,000

Data current as of publish date. Prices may be subject to change.

Unlike most other movers, Mayzlin quotes by cubic feet taken up on the moving truck, not the weight of your belongings. The quotes also vary depending on the type and size of the move. For a long-distance, cross-country move of a three-bedroom home, costs range from $7,500 to $9,000 with standard packing (customer packs delicate and fragile items) or $9,000 to $11,000 with full packing (company supplies boxes and handles all packing).

In-state moves for a three-bedroom home range from $3,000 to $5,000, while regional moves follow similar pricing as long-distance moves, with $7,500 to $9,000 for standard packing and $9,000 to $11,000 for full packing. Local moves cost $2,000 to $2,500 for a one-bedroom home, $2,500 to $3,000 for a two-bedroom home, and $3,000 to $4,000 for a three-bedroom home.

Extra fees

Now that you know the basic costs of moving with Mayzlin, it's important to know what fees might get tacked on. For example, if you want the Full Professional Packing service, packing materials and labor costs $1.50 per cubic foot.

You also pay more if the movers have to do more work. A large Mayzlin moving truck (48-foot or 53-foot) must be able to park within 75 feet of your door, and the move should only involve carrying items up to the second floor with a maximum of seven stairs, according to the company. If your location can't fit a large truck, a smaller shuttle truck will be used, which costs $1.00 per cubic foot, with a minimum fee of $500.

If the distance from the truck to your door is over 75 feet, there is a $75 charge for every additional 75 feet. If there are more than seven stairs, there is a $75 charge for every additional seven stairs. Yes, you read that right. You're charged more if the movers have to exert themselves more than what Mayzlin thinks is reasonable.

If you need storage, Mayzlin will store your items for free for the first month. After that, you pay $0.60 per cubic foot per month.

Deposits and coverage

For Mayzlin Relocation, your moving deposit is equal to 25% of your final quote. That's on the lower side for long-distance moving companies.

The remaining balance will be paid at the time of your move—the first half at pickup and the second half at delivery. For example, for a move from Memphis to Chicago, your deposit would be $2,075. You would then pay $3,112.50 at pickup and the same at dropoff.

In addition to these charges, there’s also coverage that you’ll likely want to purchase for your items. There are three levels of coverage offered by Mayzlin based on deductible amounts. For example, on a quote we got for a move from Pasadena to Seattle, we were given these options for coverage:

Mayzlin Relocation and International Van Lines require a lower deposit for interstate moves, making them more affordable compared to American Van Lines and Moving APT, which require a bigger percentage of your total when you book your move. Our estimated deposits are based on an average interstate moving cost of $7,500 and may vary depending on location and availability.

Mayzlin Relocation features and services

Mayzlin Relocation offers the basic services you'd come to expect from a top moving company:

  • Storage
  • Packing/unpacking
  • Full-coverage insurance
  • Auto shipping
  • Motorcycle shipping
  • Shipment tracking
  • Trash and debris removal
  • Specialty item moving/packing
  • Crating

Just about the only thing Mayzlin doesn't offer is electronics installation. Other companies, like Allied Van Lines and Mayflower will take down and install electronics for you. That can save a lot of time and frustration while you're unpacking, but Mayzlin can get nearly everything else done for you.

Mayzlin customer service

There are three ways to contact Mayzlin customer service. You can call them at 954-616-5355 or 980-217-3011, or you can email them at info@mayzlinrelocation.com.

Our research shows that Mayzlin Relocation's customer service is often less than helpful and customers have reported that it can sometimes be downright rude. Customers report that the representatives give information contradictory to the contract, creating confusion and unmet expectations.

This inconsistency may be the reason that complaints with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rose sharply in 2024. Mayzlin jumped from six complaints each in 2022 and 2023, to 22 complaints filed as of November 2024. The majority of those complaints addressed estimates and final charges, pickup and delivery, and deceptive business practices.

It can be understandable that newer companies face more bumps in the road than long-established ones, but the sharp rise after two years of minimal complaints, gives us pause.

On the plus side, Mayzlin fares better with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). As of December 2024, the company has 4.25 stars out of 5, from 353 customer reviews. It also has a BBB rating of A- and has been accredited since 2020.

"I have never used movers this well-organized. They unloaded the boxes in the proper order, beginning with the necessities and working their way up to the heavier stuff. They labelled each box based on the room. The entire procedure was methodical, and it ensured the relocation was completed on schedule."

—Jefferson P., Mayzlin BBB review, December 2024

Mayzlin Relocation cancellation policy

Even after all the planning you do before moving day, sometimes you need to cancel a move. Mayzlin Relocation's cancellation policy includes several key points:

  • Customers can cancel services penalty-free within three days of receiving the Bill of Lading.
  • Services may be canceled up to seven business days before the scheduled move with written notice and confirmation via phone, allowing for a full refund of prepaid deposits.
  • If canceled less than seven business days before the move, customers may receive a partial refund; however, deposits are forfeited if cancellation is within seven days.
  • No refund is issued if cancellation occurs on the pickup day.

This is all more complicated than most other companies, but not the worst we've seen. We'd like to point out, though, that if you need to reschedule at the last minute and then you cancel, you'll be paying . . . a lot. You'll be charged a $1,000 cancellation fee if your move is rescheduled less than 10 days before the move and then canceled.

Real customer experience

Mayzlin is a smaller and newer company than other top long-distance movers, so there are fewer online customer reviews overall. However, there is still enough to get a snapshot of the company from the customer's perspective.

Customer reviews consistently cite poor communication as a problem with Mayzlin. And we don't doubt it. On the Better Business Bureau website, Mayzlin's customer service representatives consistently communicate poorly with customer complaints. At times, the representatives are rude or just somewhat obtuse.

We found that a lot of complaints online focus on insurance coverage, as well. It's important to note that with Mayzlin— like with many other long-distance moving companies—your insurance coverage is very minimal. If something happens to an item, you're not going to get enough money back to cover the item. For example, one customer complaint about Mayzlin Relocation centered around losing an expensive sound bar. The company stated this as part of its reply:

"Standard coverage is provided based on weight, at a rate of $1.2 per pound, as specified in our Terms & Conditions. This type of insurance is industry standard and is based on weight rather than the items actual value. For items of high value, we always recommend considering third-party insurance coverage for full replacement value."

Think of it this way. If your item is a $1,000 sound bar and the box was only 5 lbs., you would only be reimbursed $6 for your lost sound bar. If that sounds ridiculous, it is. This is more than the industry standard, though, which is $.60 per pound.

The company also notes in its terms and conditions, "Consumer shipper waives all claims and Mayzlin Relocation LLC is not liable or negligent for any damage to the interior or exterior of any residence including, but not limited to walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, banisters, carpets, plumbing, doorways, driveways, walkways, landscaping, etc. In addition, you are not able to give to us to carry and we accept no liability whatsoever for firearms, jewelry, cash, bank notes, any financial instruments, hazardous materials, liquids."

So, it may be no surprise that Mayzlin Relocation seems to be having a growing problem with customer satisfaction. In 2023, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration only received six complaints about the company. In 2024, the number of complaints jumped to 22 by late November.

Our turn

We decided to give Mayzlin Relocation the hands-on treatment and I submitted my information to get a quote. They sent me an email with a link to a form to fill out to gather more information about my move. The link didn't work. The link did work the second time I asked for a quote.

The link took me to a multi-step form. First, I had to fill out my address, my new address and my moving dates. Next, I had to fill out a super long inventory list. Filling out this checklist could easily take hours if you have lots of stuff. It would have been much easier to have someone do an on-site inventory to get a quote, like with most companies.

Once all that was submitted, the company didn't contact me with a quote. It felt like a big waste of time.

Mayzlin Relocation compared to other companies

Overall, Mayzlin Relocation strikes a balance between affordability and service reliability within the continental U.S.—a broader service range than many competitors.

Mayzlin Relocation offers competitive pricing and services compared to other moving companies. With quotes ranging from $7,500 to $9,000 and a 25% deposit, Mayzlin stands out as a more affordable option than International Van Lines (IVL), whose prices range from $9,000 to $13,000 with a 30% deposit. It is also more cost-effective than Colonial Van Lines, which gave us a fixed quote of $9,000 and requires up to a 40% deposit.

However, Mayzlin is slightly pricier than American Van Lines, whose quotes range from $6,214 to $9,658 with deposits between 10–50%. Mayzlin and Colonial Van Lines both operate exclusively in the continental U.S., whereas IVL provides services in all 50 states and internationally.

Mayzlin's pricing is higher than North American Van Lines, which gave us quotes ranging from $4,500 to $7,000 with no deposit required, and Mayflower, which also does not require a deposit but doesn't offer any discounts. Unlike IVL and American Van Lines, Mayzlin doesn't provide a Move.org discount.

Did you know that Hawaii and Alaska are considered “international”?

Moving companies often define international moves as anywhere you can’t drive a truck. That means you’ll be reserving an international move if going to Alaska or Hawaii.

Why we recommend Mayzlin Relocation

While Mayzlin Relocation is a newer company, it's comparable to others on our top long-distance movers list. We like that it offers price matching, several discounts, and a reasonable cancellation policy. While Mayzlin may not have the resources of larger companies such as Allied, International Van Lines, or American Van Lines, it’s tough to deny their growth into a viable long-distance mover.

Even though customer reviews and complaints have been inconsistent, we're willing to give a little grace to a newer company that is getting established. It's encouraging to see several positive reviews coming through in recent months, so we think that Mayzlin is worth considering. But we strongly recommend doing your own research to make sure you feel comfortable with whichever mover you pick.

Mayzlin Relocation FAQ

Based on the quotes we received, with Mayzlin Relocation you could pay anywhere from $2,000 to $11,000, depending on the type of move and the size of your home.

Yes, Mayzlin offers local moving. The company may contract a local moving company to do the work, though.

Yes, Mayzlin offers packing services. These services do cost extra, so you can save money by packing yourself. Packing gives you a chance to take an inventory of your belongings, donate or throw out old items, and start fresh in your new home. Plus, we have some ideas to help make packing easier.

Yes, a moving truck is cheaper than Mayzlin Relocation. However, if you’re moving cross-country using a rental moving truck, that price can quickly increase. If you rent a truck from a top moving truck rental company, you’ll have to load, drive, and unload the furniture yourself unless you hire outside labor.
